Julia Klöckner (CDU) was elected president of the German Bundestag, which has a reduced percentage of female members (32.4%) compared to the previous legislative session (34.8%). This decrease is attributed to gains by more male-dominated parties like AfD and CDU/CSU and losses by the Green and Social-Democratic parties. The new Bundestag has 630 members due to electoral reform. Incoming chancellor Friedrich Merz has ruled out gender quotas in his government.
